Hometown: Joliet, Illinois Strengths: Wicked strong (duh), extremely resourceful, intelligent and dedicated to her calling Weaknesses: At times forgetful or apathetic of the mundane world, often willing to ignore conventions and regulations in the interest of getting the job done Background information: Samantha had been like just about any other 18 year old back in 2003, getting ready for her freshman year of college and everything that went along with it. After all, who wouldn't be excited about life when they were about to start their collegiate career at Michigan State? But that was before the change. Samantha didn't know it had happened, but as she walked home from a friend's house one night, Samantha was attacked by a stranger, one who was later discovered to have been a serial rapist the authorities had been looking for, and when she swung her fist to fight back, Samantha sent the man flying back a good 10 feet. Freaked, the man covered his broken nose and fled before police could find him. Two weeks later, having avoided further incident, Samantha was greeted at home by an elderly man named Russell Witherton. Witherton, who explained to Samantha what had happened to her, eventually became her Watcher. But the two never got along, mostly because Russell vehemently disagreed with Samantha's insistence that she stay in college and continue pursuing her dream of becoming a homicide detective. Samantha did stay in school, and she did graduate ... and she did slay all the while, dusting her fair share of the vampires and doing her part to make sure the rest of the world went to bed nice and tidy every night, unaware of what lurked just outside their windows. The night she received her undergrad degree, Samantha eventually parted ways with Russell. Samantha had just begun her graduate studies at the University of Illinois when she was approached one day by another British man, this one claiming to work for the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. He came not to tell her of demons and scary prophecies--unlike Russell--but this man instead offered her a job: serve in Sin City as a homicide detective. But ... Samantha wasn't nearly done school yet. She'd just started on her master's, and she still had to go through the academy, and who knew what else she'd have to endure before getting her badge. Why did the city of Las Vegas want her, and why now? Of course, the answers didn't come. But it wasn't like Samantha was too busy pulling the man's ear about it. After much thought, Samantha decided to take the job. Opportunities like that didn't just come by every couple weeks; Samantha decided to take a chance this one time and jump in head-first. Besides, she was a Slayer ... anything that came up, she'd surely be able to deal with. Of course, she realized she'd have to keep that little fact about herself a secret. There may have been hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Slayers running around the world, but that didn't mean the world was ready to find out that they--and the things they fight--exist.
